Try StumbleUpon at http://www.stumbleupon.com and add your site to your favorites.
You can try article marketing at an article submission service like http://www.ezinearticles.com and link back to your website in the resource box for your articles.
You can also comment on popular blogs like John Chow’s or Joel Comm’s that allow linkbacks to your URL. Do a Yahoo Search.
Create a video and upload it to YouTube with your URL flashed on the screen. All of these are free.

doing constant link building can make your site more mature, just remember that every minute in the internet can change a lot. by that you must constantly visit the site or make a seo operation to secure that your site is on the right track.

Instead of putting up a standard "Under construction" page I would put up a page of text describing what will be on the site. This way if search engines find it they will know how to index it.

Gotta love these spammers with thier traffic exchanges, never use those, they visitors only stay on your site for 15 seconds which actually hurts you in the search engines, and provide no real customers.

First of all its hard to compete in this category simply because you are trying to compete with seo experts.
Secondly you are trying to promote seo tools on a site that has no rank. Would you believe that tools on a site that is not ranked in the search engines will have tools that will help your site rank? You are trying to get a plane off the ground with no wings.

I highly suggest you find a different category. There is to much competition, and all the competition are experts in the field.

SEO Books will be outdated very quickly. Your best source is to first have an excellent understanding of web development, html, asp, design concepts and design standards.

You need to take online courses. These can be expensive from the top online schools but worth it in the end. You need to sign up fro the best feeds, ezines, forums that are online.

You need to be familiar with Google webmaster guidelines, ppc, link building, sem and social networking.

You have to know how to market yourself as a professional. You best bet is after training find a mentor who can guide you and teach you the ropes.

Learn how to search for what you are looking for as well. If you want to do SEO and SEM, then know how to find best information online. There are many and what I feel is best you may not based on your time, budgets and so on. So do some heavy research and reading as that will help you grow as well.

Yes, buy your domain now if your are sure of the one that you want. Otherwise when you go to buy it later it might not be available anymore.

Just because you aren’t ready to launch your website is no reason to not purchase your desired domain. You can simply park the domain until you are ready to use it. That way you don’t lose it, it matures & you have a reason to get your work done so that you can launch your website.

However, your website doesn’t need to "BE" complete when you launch it. It just needs to "LOOK" complete with good navigation and a recommended site map for the spiders to know where all your different web pages are at. As you are ready you can add to your website just as you would break out a wall of a house and add to its size.

I use auto surf programs like http://www.topsurfing.net to get free hits to my site. They help a lot in getting your website higher in the search engines. I also have never paid for any advertising and my sites do well in search engines.
But if you don’t have a lot of time you can also buy a lot of credits for cheap and then your site will get visitors with very little to no effort at all.
